About Xio (the informal version!)

 
xio consulting, like every other business, is people. Like most consultancy businesses, we've made up a bunch of formal names for things that we do (such as 'total-systems modelling', 'systems synthesis', 'energy dynamics' and 'technology of mind'); but what really do is work with other people - particularly in the IT, HR and business-strategy parts of business - to help them find their (your?) own solutions to tricky issues such as requirements identification and tracking, quality-management, knowledge-management and other long-term data strategies - and also planning for, and surviving, major change.

What we do does work - take a look at some of the examples. And we do base a fair amount of what we do on the same old 'standard' techniques and models that everyone else uses - ISO-9000, TQM, BPR, USDP/UML and so on. What's different is that we cover a much wider range than the typical consultant from the big consulting groups; and we're also not averse to using some distinctly unconventional techniques where appropriate - take a look at our on-line toolbox for some new ideas, perhaps?

(The office cat has decided to be helpful at this point: she's just jumped up onto my desk, walked over the keyboard and is now prodding at the screen, watching the cursor to see if it turns into something something attackable and preferably edible... a typical office hazard when trying to be serious?)
In essence, what we do is help our client work backwards and forwards through a discrete set of questions:

  • what do we want to do? (mission, aims, requirements)
  • where are we now? (functioning of current systems, if any)
  • how did we get here? (history, hidden 'requirements' and constraints)
  • how do we get from here to there? (planning and people)
  • who's going to do what? (actions, empowerment, energy-dynamics)
  • what happens when people move on? (skill-sets and individual abilities)
  • what happens when our world changes? (planning for long-term change)
  • how do we stay on track? (quality-system, procedures, IT support)
